Why this row

At the end of 2024, about 10,300 projects holding 1,400 GW of generation and 890 GW of storage were waiting for a grid connection, and 13% of the capacity that applied between 2000 and 2019 had been built. The median wait doubled, from under two years for plants built in 2000 to 2007 to over four for plants built in 2018 to 2024. The row is binding on FERC and the grid operators because a public body's decision is the step that takes the time, and the anchor is the country's own recent past.

linear from 4.0; the 2026 edition of Queued Up reports 61 months for the newest cohort, and the baseline is rechecked against it before adoption

Each July 4 the row shows its baseline, this path, the latest official value and a status of ahead, on schedule or behind. As a binding row it also links the decisions by FERC and the grid operators that moved the number during the year.
